Psiche original characters: Marigpa by Rahula87 Psiche original characters: Marigpa by Rahula87
Wow i never felt so creative in a short period of time like this, despite my intense study and i like it because i don't know when this will happen again, anyhow let's start by saying that this guy is the main enemy of my version of I.O. (now it is a completely new version of my mind and it has nothing to do anymore with the movie). Instead of showing my remaining emotions i prefrerred to put the enemy par excellence: Marigpa.
Marigpa is a tibetan word which means "ignorance" (ma is a negative particle in Tibetan language). The concept of course doesn't refers to knowledge ignorance but to ignorance or misconceptions about the nature of metaphysical reality, in particular about the impermanence, the nature of mind and non-self doctrines about reality. It is the root cause of Dukkha (uneasyness, uncomfortable, unpleasantness, difficulty, unsatisfactoriness) and asserted as the first link, in Buddhist phenomenology, of a process that leads to repeated birth. Marigpa or Avidya (in Sanskrit) is identified as the first of the twelve links of dependent origination (twelve nidanas)—a sequence of links that describe why a being reincarnates and remains bound within the samsara, a cycle of repeated births and deaths in six realms of existence. The twelve nidanas are an application of the Buddhist concept of pratityasamutpada (dependent origination). This theory, presented in Samyutta Nikaya II.2–4 and Digha Nikaya II.55–63, asserts that rebirth, re-aging and re-death ultimately arise through a series of twelve links or nidanas ultimately rooted in Avidya, and the twelfth step Jaramarana triggers the dependent origination of Avidya, recreating an unending cycle of dukkha. Sonam Rinchen states: "Every action leaves its imprint on the mind, and later craving and grasping activate the imprint to bring about its result. Underlying this kind of action is our ignorance, namely our innate misconception of the self, the root of all our troubles.

In this drawing i simply showed his face, the rest of body will be shown in next future.

Name: Marigpa
Meaning: Ignorance (Tibetan)
Location: Bythos (Depth or Profundity in Ancient Greek)
Type: Nidana (cause, motivation or occasion in Sanskrit, depending on the contex)
Age: ageless
Status: Alive
Abilities: Marigpa is a really nasty individual who causes beings to be born into this world, clouds their minds and corrupt basic emotions and distract mind from pursuing virtue and knowledge of nature of mind. He feeds off emotions energies, weakening them and if they don't go away as soon as possible they risk to die. Marigpa is also able to corrupt every emotion and thought so it is pretty dangerous to be too close to him. He also has a wicked sense of humour but the thing he likes to do the most is torturing emotions and binding the mind of host to sensual attachment in order to turn him/her into a kind of slave of physical world, very similar to hylic men in valentinian gnosticism. After the psychological element of damagin the mind of host, Marigpa has an immense strenght that is rarely used unless provoked of forced to use it
Minions: Moha (delusion), Ahirika (lack of shame), Anottappa (disregard for consequence), Uddhacca (restlessness), Lobha (greed), Ditthi (wrong view), Mana (conceit), Dosa (hatred), Issa (envy), Macchariya (miserliness), Kukkucca (regret), Thina (sloth), Middha (torpor), Vicikiccha (doubt), Maya (illusion), Altruism, Egoism, Dvesha (ill will) and Raga (sensual attachment) [Links to these characters will be added further]
Weakness: Himself
Likes: stupidity of people (he often says "Humans are such stupid creatures, so easy to manipulate that i feel ashamed.."), evilness, currupting emotions, toying with other lives, torture, devouring minds
Dislikes: Rigpa, Compassion, Meditation, Prajna, Generosity, Effort, Forgiveness and all purified emotions into Wisdoms.

Thank you so much. Marigpa is one of my best creations in terms of design and personal traits. To be honest i love all my creations since they are inspired by mind and not surrounding reality. The idea was initially inspired by Inside Out movie but then i've noticed its world is too limited for my imagination so i decided to separate my mind creation from that movie and so Outside In was born. Now i'm showing only characters but in futire i will show places where they live since my Outside In world is very vast and complex plus some of its traits are taken from Buddhist religion.

Thank you for this amazing comment, really appreciated :)

My O.I. is pheraps my most buddhist work and some of its characters derives from an unborn comic project where i showed the history and development of a Nagkpa (tantric laic) touched by crazy wisdom but then i abandoned the idea. Concepts still remain even if in a darker side. Don't be fooled by name "Altruism" he is a not so good guy but i will talk about him when i will show him. By my personal experience i can assure that Ignorance is the real root of all difficulties and bad things in the world and it is not only metaphysical Ignorance but also ignorance of Ignorance which leads dukkha. The fact he hates all positive aspects that can lead to Enlightenment is due to a simple thought: if i were an extremely negative being who feeds on living being's energies i would hate everything that bring those creatures away from me.

The design is a result of my strong imagination and acute visualization skills, i don't even need an effort to create something. It comes out naturally, as a kind of epiphany that appears in my mental consciousness; remember in visualization you don't use Eye Consciousness but the mental one. I Buddhist philosophy/religion there are 8 consciousnesses (this comes from Yogacara school of Buddhism) where it enumerates the five senses, supplemented by the mind, defilements of the mind, and finally the fundamental store-house consciousness, which is the basis of the other seven.

Thank you very much for the comment, i like you enjoyed this villain. Unlike other emotions or enemies this guy is the most terrifying of all and considering how nast ignorance (from te buddhist perspective of course) can be, it is natural for him to have so many minions and virtually all emotions can be his minions of attachment catches them. Of course he has strong enemies that can put him in a corner and restrict his powers (see Dislikes). If the host is able to discipline his/her mind Marigpa weakens and in the case of sages, spiritual practitioners, holy men etc. he can be destroyed so he is not invicible but he take advantage that there will be always a creature who doesn't train his/her mind in the universe so he can use that host to spawn and continue to exist in this universe.

Thank you, i'm very happy you like this monster (literally XD). I wanted to show a different perspective of a being with six heads. Actually it is not certain whether or not the feline heads are actually a tiger head, they are based on feline head after being skinned. Glad you like the texture, i wanted to make him intimidating and judging by comments i achieved my goal :D

Thank you very much for these words. Shading is one of my favourite part in the colour process and i apply this even with ballpoint pen. The only digital element was the effect of lighting because i wanted to show how intimidanting he can be but one day you will see him without this effect, you will see his true colours and entire body because this is only the head. Infos are always necessary for me and readers since this character is mostly based on concepts of Buddhism. Thank you again^^

Yesterday evening i was about to go to sleep when i checked my notifications and i read this wonderful comment that made my night, thank you so much! I feel really honoured. This character is not easy to draw because of his head shape but i love the final result, not to mention this is onlt the head so the rest of body is yet to come. Mhhmhm i think i will create a post that describes his body in order to make other to understand better his anatomy and trust me it can be pretty messed up since, in my view, metaphysical ignorance is a really messed up enemy and i wanted to show this element in his design. The head is made of a feline head with human head as chin (or pheraps the human chin is his head, who knows like i told this character is pretty messed up), the tongues are different: the right tounge is actually a feline tongue while the left one is a human tongue. He has one head partially splitted into six heads (three on the top and three at the bottom), two tongues, two arms with fused human hand and feline paw, some animal heads merging from the neck, some tentacles, slim and long body a snake whose coils are fused, in the last part of body, into the body of a maggot, like the ones you see in myiasis.

Aw I'm glad you liked my comment so much. Well I was pretty impressed.  I look forward to seeing the whole of him. I wonder what he'll be like.  What's funny is I didn't think he looked messed up but then I'm drawn to frightening creatures.
